Fun Fact:

Did you know pretzels were invented by monks sometime between the fifth and seventh centuries? They twisted leftover strips of dough to resemble arms crossed in prayer, and used them as rewards for children. Over time, pretzels became a symbol of good fortune and spiritual wholeness, and even played a role in wedding ceremonies!

Pretzel History Highlights:

Saved Vienna: Pretzel bakers working through the night heard the Turks tunneling below the city walls and alerted the guard, saving Vienna in the 1500s.

American Introduction: The first American pretzel bakery started in the 1850s when a baker received a European pretzel recipe from a drifter.

Record Breaker: The largest pretzel weighs 783.81 kg (1,728 lb) and was achieved by Industrias La Constancia with its brand Pilsener (El Salvador) at CIFCO in San Salvador, El Salvador, on 25 October 2015.
